The Bruneau Medal is awarded annually to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional contributions to both theoretical research and practical engineering applications in the field of resilience. This distinction recognizes outstanding achievements that advance scientific understanding and foster the development of resilient urban environments and infrastructure systems. The award will be presented during the ICONREM 2026 Conference.

Eligibility Criteria:

Open to individuals who have made a notable impact in resilience research or practice. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in both theoretical innovation and real-world engineering applications related to resilience. The award is open to all professionals and researchers, regardless of association membership.

Selection Process:

Nominations are reviewed by a committee of experts in resilience and structural engineering. The selection committee evaluates nominees based on the significance, originality, and real-world impact of their contributions. Only one recipient is selected each year.

Key Deadlines:

🗓 June 1 – Initial nominations due.
🗓 September 30 – Evaluation and final selection.
📢 November – Winner announced on the IARCS website and formally recognized at ICONREM 2026.

The Best Paper Award

The Best Paper Award recognizes the most innovative and impactful research published in the field of resilience. It honors authors whose work demonstrates originality, scientific rigor, and a significant contribution to advancing the understanding or application of resilience in cities, structures, and infrastructure systems.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible papers must be published in the Journal of Resilient Cities and Structures (RCS) within the past year. Submissions may include theoretical studies, experimental research, or practical applications that contribute to resilience. The award is open to all authors, regardless of association membership.

Selection Process:

A committee of experts reviews all nominated papers. Each submission is evaluated based on its originality, significance, methodological quality, and contribution to the field of resilience. The winning paper is selected through a rigorous peer-review and consensus process.

Key Deadlines:

🗓 October 1 – Initial nominations due.
🗓 January 31 – Evaluation and final selection.
📢 February – Winner announced on the IARCS website.
