At IARCS, we honor outstanding achievements in resilience research and practice through prestigious awards. These recognitions celebrate individuals and research that contribute significantly to the advancement of resilient cities and structures, including: 

Bruneau Medal

The Best Paper Award

These awards celebrate impactful research that contributes to advancing resilience practices, encouraging excellence within the academic and professional community.

Bruneau Medal

The Bruneau Medal is awarded annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to theoretical research and engineering applications in resilience. This award highlights excellence in advancing knowledge and practical solutions for resilient urban environments and structures.

Eligibility Criteria:

Open to individuals who have made a notable impact in resilience research or practice. The recipient must have contributed to both theoretical research and engineering applications in resilience. The award is not limited to members of the association.

Selection Process:

Candidates are evaluated through a preliminary selection process by a committee of experts in the field. The selection committee reviews nominees based on their impact on theory, innovation, and real-world applications in resilience. Only one award is granted per year.

The Best Paper Award

The Best Paper Award recognizes the most innovative and impactful research published in the field of resilience. This award is given to authors whose work demonstrates originality, rigor, and a significant contribution to the understanding or application of resilience in cities and structures.

Eligibility Criteria:

Papers must be published in the Journal of Resilient Cities and Structures (RCS) within the past year. Papers can contribute to either research advancements or practical applications in resilience. The award is open to all authors, regardless of association membership.

Selection Process:

A selection committee reviews all nominated papers. Papers are evaluated based on originality, significance, and contribution to the field of resilience. The winning paper is chosen through a rigorous peer-review process conducted by experts.
