At IARCS, we put the future of urban resilience at the forefront. In a world shaped by climate change, natural hazards, rapid urbanization, and technological disruption, resilience is the cornerstone of thriving cities and robust infrastructure. Our mission is to unite global leaders, innovators, researchers, and policymakers to advance the tools, knowledge, and strategies that help urban systems adapt, endure, and flourish. Through collaboration and shared expertise, we work to shape cities and structures that are sustainable, inclusive, and prepared for the future. IARCS fosters a global network that bridges research, policy, and practice, from innovative studies and technical training to policy development and the promotion of emerging technologies.

As part of this commitment, IARCS proudly hosts the official ICONREM Conference in Italy and the biennial Kwang Hua Forum at Tongji University, key international gatherings organized by our members and partners. Join us in building a world where resilience turns challenges into opportunities, ensuring cities and structures are ready to face adversity.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission at IARCS is to champion resilience at every level of urban and structural development. We strive to:

Through these pillars, we aim to transform resilience from a reactive approach into a proactive, forward-looking strategy that secures a safer, more sustainable future for all.

We envision a world where cities and structures are planned, designed, and maintained to endure and thrive amid environmental, social, and economic challenges. By integrating resilience across urban planning and structural design, we seek to create adaptive, equitable, and sustainable communities that safeguard the well-being of present and future generations.

Who We Are

We are IARCS, a global non-profit dedicated to advancing resilience in urban environments and infrastructure systems. Our diverse membership includes leading institutions, practitioners, researchers, engineers, infrastructure managers, and students. IARCS bridges applied and theoretical domains to create a cohesive platform for resilience-building. By connecting experts across academia, industry, and government, we enhance the understanding and application of resilience methods and tools. We raise awareness among end-users and empower communities, organizations, and policymakers with the knowledge and resources needed to address modern challenges such as climate change, natural hazards, and rapid urbanization.

IARCS also advances global research and innovation through the Journal of Resilient Cities and Structures (RCS), published in collaboration with Elsevier. This peer-reviewed journal serves as a premier forum for the latest research, emerging technologies, and practical engineering applications in resilient cities, infrastructure, and structures. By sharing innovative approaches to resilience-based assessment, management, and planning, the RCS journal helps reduce the adverse impacts of disasters on urban systems.
